About this webinar

This webinar will showcase pioneering electric vessel (e-vessel) initiatives from Asia and the Pacific. We'll hear directly from project developers on the electrification of fishing boats in Indonesia, testing an electric commuter ferry in the Philippines, and e-vessel product development for small-scale transport operators in Samoa.

While electric water-based transport remains an emerging field, rapid technological progress and local innovation are driving its expansion. Participants will hear how practitioners are addressing key challenges to pave the way for broader adoption of clean maritime transport.

This webinar forms part of the E-Mobility Support and Investment Platform for Asia and the Pacific, managed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and supported by the Global Environment Facility and the United Nations Environment Programme.

About the speakers

Fiona Bycroft is the Co-Founder and CEO of Naut, a clean-tech marine company electrifying commercial and recreational vessels across Aotearoa and Asia Pacific. Naut designs and builds high-powered electric inboard and outboard systems that are clean, quiet, modular, and boat-agnostic — enabling existing vessels to transition to electric without changing the way they operate. With electric boats already on the water for more than a decade, Fiona and her team have real-world operational experience in performance, integration, and ongoing support — not just prototypes. An engineer by training, Fiona is focused on growing the electric marine market in partnership with end users, ensuring that technology delivers cleaner, quieter, commercially viable boating that works for the people on the water every day.

Ashley Owen Shaw is a Chartered Marine Engineer and Project Manager at McKay, leading complex engineering projects across Defence, Marine, and Renewables. A former Marine Engineering Officer in the Royal New Zealand Navy, Ashley spent 14 years deployed across the South Pacific and Southern Ocean on humanitarian and disaster relief operations, scientific research support, fisheries protection, and remote island resupply operations.
Since joining McKay, Ashley has delivered major infrastructure and electrification projects, including a 7MW agrivoltaic solar farm in rural New Zealand and the E-Alia electric vessel build for Samoa. Her ability to operate in remote, resource-limited environments — combined with deep maritime technical expertise — makes her a highly capable leader of projects pushing into new and challenging territory.

Nadea Nabilla is an environmental innovator and social entrepreneur dedicated to advancing clean energy solutions for Indonesia’s coastal communities. Holding a Master’s degree in Electronic Engineering from Kumoh National Institute of Technology, South Korea, she combines her technical background with a strong passion for ocean conservation. As the Founder of Azura Indonesia, Nadea developed MantaOne, a flagship marine electric propulsion system designed to help small-scale fishers reduce fuel costs and carbon emissions. Through her initiative, the Nelayan Lestari Program, she integrates capacity building, technical assistance, and sustainable fishing practices to empower local livelihoods. Nadea continues to bridge innovation, sustainability, and community impact—championing inclusive climate action and the transition toward a low-carbon, ocean-friendly future.

Lew Andrew R. Tria is a professor at the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Institute of the University of the Philippines Diliman, He obtained his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Australia and his MS and BS in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of the Philippines Diliman. He also holds an MS Innovation and Business degree from the Asian Institute of Management. His research interests include power electronics, electric motor design, and energy systems such as solar photovoltaics and electric vehicles. He co-founded CHRG EV Technologies Inc., a startup that supports the local EV industry in the Philippines.

Wanswad Prinyawat is the Vice President of Mine Mobility Research Co., Ltd. He earned his degree in Naval Architecture from Newcastle University, UK, in 1994 and has over 25 years of experience in the marine industry. His extensive background spans ship repair and newbuilding, yacht production, ship ownership, classification, and consulting. For nearly nine years, he has served in leadership roles within the EA Group’s electric vehicle business unit, focusing on research and development of battery systems and electric mobility solutions for both land and marine applications. His expertise bridges traditional naval design and cutting-edge sustainable mobility technologies.

About

The Asian Development Bank launched the E-Mobility Support and Investment Platform for Asia and the Pacific, with the support by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and other partners, for bringing together practitioners and to support the scale-up of e-mobility in the region. The platform aims to become a centre of knowledge for supporting a just transition towards net-zero pathways.
