About this workshop
Jeepneys, tuk-tuks, autorickshaws, motorcycle taxis, minibuses and other forms of informal and shared mobility are the main way hundreds of millions of people travel across the Global South. As countries in Asia and the Pacific and beyond move toward electric mobility, the future of these services, and of the workers and small operators who run them, will shape how fair and effective that transition turns out to be.
Driving the Electric Future is an interactive workshop dedicated to charting the next era of popular transportation. Using a collaborative framework, participants will map the key forces shaping informal and shared mobility and its shift to e-mobility. They will sort these forces into those stakeholders can control, influence, or monitor. Together, the participants will translate big-picture ideas into initial priorities for research, policy dialogue, investment design, and coalition-building.
The workshop brings together urban planners, policymakers, transport operators, development practitioners, researchers, manufacturers, climate and environmental funders, and civil society advocates. Read more here about the workshop.
The workshop is co-organized by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the E-Mobility Support and Investment Platform for Asia and the Pacific, as a side event of the 1st Global Convening on Informal and Shared Mobility (GloCon), which takes place 26–28 October 2026 in Bangkok. Presented by the Volvo Research and Educational Foundations (VREF) and supported by ADB and other development partners, GloCon is the first global gathering dedicated to informal and shared mobility that brings together operators, workers, governments, researchers, and communities to explore how these systems can be recognized, supported, and integrated into more inclusive and sustainable transport.
